Welcome & Goodbye

Greet arrivals in a channel and in their DMs, with a banner drawn from their avatar — and mark departures with the same designer. Two halves, two switches, one page.

On this page

Welcome and Goodbye are two tabs on one page with a switch each. They are kept apart deliberately: plenty of servers want one without the other, and a single switch would silently start announcing departures in a server that only asked to greet people.

Welcome & Goodbye

Greet arrivals with a banner, a private DM and a message you designed — and mark departures with the same designer.

Greets arrivals and marks departures. Two halves, one page.

Setting up a welcome

  1. Switch the Welcome tab on

Onboarding & Access → Welcome & Goodbye → the Welcome tab's own switch.

  2. Choose the channel

Where the public greeting goes. Arclo needs Send Messages, Embed Links and — if you use a banner — Attach Files there.

  3. Write the message

The full message editor: plain text or an embed, with placeholders. {user} mentions them; in a plain message that mention pings, in an embed it does not.

  4. Add a banner, if you want one

Pick a template from the library or upload your own art, then edit it in the banner studio. It is drawn with the arriving member's avatar at send time.

  5. Send yourself a test

The test button posts the real message to the real channel, so you can see it in Discord rather than on a settings page.

Welcome @newcomer to Nebula Collective!

Welcome to Nebula Collective!

Read the rules in #rules and pick up your roles in #roles. Say hello in #general — we do not bite.

The default welcome message, with a banner. Everything in it is yours to change.

Settings

Announcement channel
Where the public greeting is posted. Leave it unset to run DM-only.
Private message
A DM to the arriving member, designed separately from the channel message. You can say one thing publicly and something warmer in private — or only one of the two.
Greet on
Join greets the moment they arrive. After screening waits until they have accepted your rules — the right choice if your server uses Discord's membership screening, because otherwise you greet people who never got in.
Minimum account age
Accounts younger than this are not greeted. A raid of fresh accounts does not need a welcome party.
Delete after
Remove the greeting automatically after a while, so #general does not become a wall of welcomes.
Banner
From the shared library or your own upload. An uploaded GIF stays animated; a banner built in the studio is rendered as a still image.
Roles on join
Handled by Auto Roles, which has its own switch, its own safety rails and its own retroactive apply.

Library art is not recolored by default

The welcome library is scenic — forests, skies, rooms — and hue-mapping a green forest to cyan breaks the picture. Recoloring is a switch you turn on, not a default, unlike the abstract art in the boost and birthday libraries.

Placeholders

PlaceholderBecomes
{user}Mentions the member who joined
{username}The member's username
{display_name}The member's display name
{user_id}The member's Discord id
{server}The server name
{member_count}The server's member count, counting them
{member_count_ordinal}"1250th" — their place in line
{account_age}How old their Discord account is
{account_created}The date their account was created
{joined_at}When they joined this server
{channel}Mentions the welcome channel
{avatar}Member avatar URL — for icon fields
{server_icon}Server icon URL — for icon fields
{inviter}Mentions whoever invited them (needs Invite Tracking)
{inviter_name}The inviter's display name
{inviter_invites}How many invites the inviter now has
{invite_code}The invite code they used
{invite_label}The label you gave that invite link

The invite placeholders need Invite Tracking

{inviter}, {inviter_name}, {inviter_invites}, {invite_code} and {invite_label} are filled in by Invite Tracking. With that system off they render as nothing — the greeting still sends.

Goodbye

The same designer, pointed at departures. It has its own switch, its own channel and its own message.

Goodbye is a subset of welcome, on purpose

Discord hands the bot a partial member when somebody leaves, and it cannot be looked up again — there is no nickname, no role list, and a join date only if it happened to be cached. So the goodbye half has no roles section and no mention, and there is deliberately no goodbye DM: Discord only lets a bot message somebody it currently shares a server with, and by definition it no longer does.

Logging

Greetings, departures and any failure to send one are logged through the Welcome logger — switched on from this page or from Logging.

Troubleshooting

Nothing is posted when somebody joins.

Check the Welcome half's own switch (separate from the page's), that the channel still exists, and that Arclo can send and embed in it. If Greet on is set to after screening and your server has screening switched off, the greeting still fires — but a member who never completes screening in a server that has it will never be greeted.

The banner is missing but the text arrives.

Arclo lacks Attach Files in that channel.

The mention does not ping.

Mentions inside an embed never notify anybody. Move {user} into the plain message above the embed.

Some arrivals are skipped.

Check Minimum account age. Arclo also never greets bots.

Still stuck? Ask in the support server — somebody there has almost certainly configured this before.
