Levels
XP for chatting and for time in voice, five curve shapes, per-channel and per-role multipliers, role rewards that reconcile themselves, designed rank cards and a public leaderboard.
On this page
Levels turns activity into a number, and the number into roles. The parts most servers configure are on the Overview tab: where level-ups are announced, which roles are rewards, and what the rank card looks like.

Getting started
Switch it on
Onboarding & Access → Levels. XP starts accruing immediately.
Decide where level-ups are announced
The channel it happened in, one fixed channel, a DM, or nowhere at all.
Add role rewards
Pick a level and the role it unlocks. Arclo's role must sit above every reward role.
Design the rank card
Optional — the default is a good card. The studio is the same one the banners use.
How XP is earned
- Messages
- A configurable amount per message, with a per-member cooldown so a member cannot farm by spamming.
- Voice
- XP per minute connected. Only qualifying seconds count, so the anti-AFK rules below are honest rather than cosmetic.
- Reactions
- Optionally, XP for reacting — or for being reacted to. Switchable off entirely.
- Multipliers
- Per channel and per role. A multiplier of zero is how you exclude a channel or a role without a separate list.
- Boosters
- Server boosters can earn at a higher rate.
Anti-AFK is on the voice side
Members alone in a channel, deafened, or muted for long stretches accrue at a reduced rate or not at all, depending on how you set it. This is what stops an overnight AFK channel out-earning a conversation.
Curves
Five shapes decide how much harder each level is than the last: none (flat), linear, gradual, exponential and constant. The dashboard previews the actual level thresholds as you change it, so you can see what level 50 will cost before you commit.
Changing the curve moves everybody
XP totals are kept; levels are derived from them. A steeper curve therefore demotes members without taking anything away, and a gentler one promotes them — including granting the reward roles that come with it.
Role rewards
- A reward is a level and a role. Members reaching that level get it.
- Rewards reconcile rather than accumulate. Every level change re-checks the whole ladder, so a member who loses XP loses the roles they no longer qualify for, and a member who gains ten levels at once gets everything they passed.
- Keep previous rewards decides whether the ladder stacks or whether each new role replaces the last.
- A first place role can be granted to whoever currently leads the board and moved automatically when that changes.
Announcements
- Where
- The channel they were active in, a fixed channel, a DM, or off.
- Message
- The full message editor, with
{level},{xp},{rank}and the reward role among the placeholders. - Only on reward levels
- Announce when a role is unlocked rather than on every single level.
- Highlights
- A weekly or monthly summary of who climbed the most, posted to a channel you choose. It reports the period that just finished.

Cards and the leaderboard
- Rank cards are designed in the studio and drawn by the same renderer in your browser and in the bot.
- Show total XP is a switch, off by default — a card showing only within-level progress (
25 / 175) is otherwise read as the member's entire XP. - The leaderboard command posts the top ten as a rendered image with a sort dropdown, and links to the web board.
- The web leaderboard is a public page anybody can open without Discord or a login — set a vanity URL for it on the Leaderboard tab.
- It can also live as a pinned message Arclo keeps up to date.

/rank [member]EveryoneShows a member's rank card — their level, XP and position.

/add-xp <member> <amount> [announce]AdministratorsGives XP to a member.

Troubleshooting
XP is not going up.
Check the channel is not on an ignore list or set to a ×0 multiplier, that the member does not hold an ignored role, and that the per-member cooldown has elapsed.
Reward roles are not being given.
Arclo's role must be above every reward role. /rank re-checks and repairs a member's rewards, which is the quickest way to confirm it.
The weekly board looks wrong after I edited somebody's XP.
Increases credit the weekly and monthly totals as well as the lifetime one; decreases deliberately leave the period totals alone.
Still stuck? Ask in the support server — somebody there has almost certainly configured this before.
