Server Analytics

Analytics is a view of your server rather than a system that acts on it, so it has no master switch. A switch on an observer is a trap: the day you want last month's numbers is the day you would find the counters had been off.

Where the numbers come from

Analytics reads what other systems already record and only stores what nothing else does. One fact, one owner, so the growth chart and the invite leaderboard can never disagree.

The Overview tab

Range

Today, 7, 30 or 90 days, a year, or all time; the page opens on 30 days. Everything but the heatmap follows it, and System Analytics offers the same six. Days run midnight to midnight in UTC; Today is drawn hour by hour in your own time zone.

Datasets

Total members, Growth (joins and leaves), Messages, Voice, and Active members. Picking one changes the chart, the four headline tiles and the two sections underneath, so the page only shows what explains the line you are looking at.

Retention

The New member retention card: of the people who arrived in the window, how many are still in the server, how many stayed a day and a week, and how many sent a message.

Join sources

How each arrival found you: Invite links, the Vanity URL, Server discovery, Bot added or Unknown. Arclo reads invite links with Manage Server; without it nearly every arrival lands in Unknown, and the card says so once a fifth of them do.

Heatmap

When your server is awake: messages by weekday and hour over the last 28 days, whatever the range, in your own time zone, with the busiest window named in its corner.

Rankings

Two lists under the heatmap, chosen by the dataset: Top invite links and Top inviters for Total members and Growth, Most active in chat and Busiest channels for Messages, Most active in voice and Busiest voice channels for Voice, and the chat and voice member lists for Active members.

• The main chart exports as a PNG or a CSV, from the export button beside the dataset picker. The PNG is rasterized from the live chart, so it cannot differ from what is on screen.
• Each figure keeps one color in every chart mode: total members cyan, joins and leaves green and red, messages and voice green, active members and net growth violet, the averages and retention yellow. The tiles, the chart and the retention bars draw a figure in its color; the heatmap is always cyan and the ranked lists green.
• Each headline tile shows its color as a small circle beside the number, and the change against the previous period in its corner. Every chart mode has a key under its title, and hovering a day of growth shows its net change.
• The top three of every ranked list are marked gold, silver and bronze, as on the public leaderboards, and your own row carries a You tag.
• Top inviters shows two different numbers on purpose: Invites is the standing lifetime total, Joins is what they brought in during the window. Left and Retention say how many of those joins stayed, which is what the list is ordered by, and a Fake column appears once the tracker has flagged any.

Activity reports

The same view, posted to a channel on a schedule. Reports are on by default; a missing channel is a warning rather than something that blocks saving, because that is where every server starts.

   Pick a channel

   Or let Arclo create a private #activity-reports channel for you: it is the first option in the picker, and the channel is made when you save.

   Choose the schedule

   How often is Daily, Weekly or Monthly (a day of the week, or a day of the month from 1 to 28), then a Time on the quarter hour and a Timezone, which follows daylight saving. It starts on Weekly, Monday at 09:00, in the server's default time zone from Settings, or your browser's when there is none. A daily report covers the day so far, a weekly one the last 7 days, a monthly one the last 30.

   Design the message

   The frame is a message you author in the standard message editor; the figures are drawn fresh into a picture under it on every send, and the preview renders the identical message. Ping these roles (up to 10) are mentioned above it; members named in the rankings are never pinged.

   Pick what goes in it

   What goes in the report has nine sections, each a card from the Overview tab. All but Top channels start on, and a section with nothing in it for the period still shows on the card and says so, so switching one on always changes the report.

   Send a test

   Send a test, beside the channel, posts one within about five minutes. Save first: the bot builds it from what is stored.

Settings

Ignored channels and categories

Up to 100. Messages and voice time in these do not count toward activity. Picking a category excludes its channels and their threads.

Ignored roles

Up to 50. Members holding any of these are left out of message, voice and ranking figures.

Count bots

Off by default, so bot accounts' messages and voice time are not counted. A logging bot posting every minute would otherwise top your activity charts.

Exclusions change activity only: joins, leaves and the member count are never filtered. The same tab says how far back the data goes: daily totals and arrivals are kept indefinitely, per-member and per-channel breakdowns for about two years, and hourly detail for about a month, long enough for the Today view and the heatmap.

Pinned statistics

On the Pinned Stats tab, the report's picture can live as one pinned message that Arclo rebuilds every fifteen minutes. It is off by default, needs a channel before it saves, covers a Window you pick (Today to start with), starts with Member growth, Retention, Activity and Join sources on and the ranking lists off, and never mentions anyone.
