Custom Booster Roles
Boosters claim a role of their own and choose its name, color and icon with /booster-role. It stays for a grace period when the boost ends, and comes back when they boost again.
The second tab of Boost Messages & Roles, with its own switch. A booster claims one role, names it, colors it and gives it an icon from the chat; the role sits right above the server's Booster role, so its color is the one their name shows. Staff set the rules on the dashboard and see every role in one list.
Setting it up
Switch it on
Community → Boost Messages & Roles → the Custom Booster Roles tab.
Check the server
The Server check card at the top says what is missing. Arclo needs Manage Roles, and its own role has to sit above the role booster roles are placed over (the Booster role, unless you pick another). Icons need boost level 2 and gradient and holographic colors need Discord's Enhanced Role Styles perk; both are extras, shown as locked until the server has them, and booster roles work without them.
Set the rules
What members may change, the longest name, blocked words, the staff colors nobody may copy, how many friends a role can be shared with, and how long a role stays after the boost ends.
Tell your boosters
/booster-role claimis all they need. With no name or color given, the role takes the default name (their display name, unless you changed it) and the default color. The Preview under New roles shows how that looks, with your own name.
Commands
/booster-role claim [name] [color]BoostersClaim your own booster role, with a name and a color of your choice. Placed right above the role this server picked, so its color shows.
/booster-role name <name>BoostersRenames your booster role, checked against the server's name rules.
/booster-role color <color> [second_color]BoostersRecolors your booster role: a hex code, a color name, random, your avatar's main color, a gradient or holographic.
/booster-role icon [emoji] [image] [remove]BoostersGives your booster role an icon from an emoji or an image, or takes it off. Needs boost level 2.
/booster-role share <member>BoostersOffers your booster role to a friend, who gets it once they accept.
/booster-role unshare <member>BoostersTakes your booster role back from someone you shared it with.
/booster-role view [member]EveryoneShows a booster role: its name, colors, icon, who it is shared with, and when it goes if the boost ended.
/booster-role delete <confirm>BoostersCannot be undoneDeletes your booster role for good. You can claim a new one while you boost.
| Color | Means |
|---|---|
#ff73fa, ff73fa, #f7f | A hex code |
pink, blurple, gold and more | A color name (the command suggests them as you type) |
random | A bright color at random |
avatar | The main color of the member's avatar |
holographic | Discord's holographic style (needs Enhanced Role Styles) |
default | The server's default color |
| A second color | Makes a gradient between the two (needs Enhanced Role Styles) |
Rules
- Place new roles aboveThe Booster role by default
- Every new booster role goes directly above this role. Its color then beats the Booster role's, which is the point of having one.
- Also allowed to claim one
- Members holding any of these roles may claim a booster role without boosting, for example a supporters or patrons role. They keep it for as long as they hold the role, with the same grace period when they lose it.
- Names
- Checked on the claim and on every rename. A name can't be longer than the server allows, can't hold a link or an invite, can't contain a blocked word, and (on by default) can't be the name of another role in the server, however it is spaced or spelled. Blocked words are matched as whole words with look-alike letters folded (
Ädm1nreads as admin), and words of four letters or more are also caught hidden inside a longer name. Try a name on the page runs the same rules. - Protected colors
- Pick your staff roles, and a booster role can't take their color or one that looks the same in the member list.
- SharingOff by default
- Switch it on and set Friends per role, how many members one booster can offer their role to (three to start, ten at most). The friend gets a message with Accept and No thanks and has the role only once they accept; the invite runs out after fifteen minutes. A role that carries any permission can never be shared.
- Most booster roles
- A cap of the server's own; leave it empty for none. Discord's limit of 250 roles applies whatever you set.
- Blocked members
- They can't claim or change a booster role, even while they boost. Pick a member to block them before they claim; picking someone who already has a role asks to remove it first, the same as Remove and block in the list.
A booster role never carries permissions
Arclo creates every booster role with no permissions and never adds any. It is a name, a color and an icon.
When a boost ends
The role stays for the grace period you pick (a day by default, up to thirty), so a boost that lapses for a moment costs nobody their role. Boosting again inside it keeps the role as it is. Leaving the server ends a boost too. When the grace period runs out the role is deleted, and with Bring it back when they boost again on (the default) its name, colors and icon are kept, so the next boost makes the same role again. Arclo also checks every few minutes that each role's member is still boosting, which catches boosts that ended while Arclo was offline.
While Custom Booster Roles is switched off nothing is removed: roles that were due to go wait until it is back on.
Managing roles
The Booster roles card lists every role with its owner, colors and status (active, or when it goes). Remove role deletes it in Discord; Remove and block also stops that member claiming another until you unblock them under Who can claim. Deleting a booster role by hand in Discord does the same as Remove.
Logging
The Custom Booster Roles logger records roles claimed, changed, shared, unshared and deleted, boosts that ended (with when the role goes), boosts that came back in time, roles removed and restored, removals by staff, and anything Arclo could not do. Switch it on from the tab or from Logging.
Troubleshooting
A booster is told Arclo's role is too low.
Booster roles go right above the Booster role (or the role you picked), and Arclo can only create and edit roles below its own. Drag Arclo's role above that role in Server Settings, Roles.
The color doesn't show on their name.
A higher role with a color wins. Booster roles sit right above the role you picked; if a colored role sits above that, pick it (or one above it) as the place for new roles.
Icons or gradients are refused.
Role icons need boost level 2, and gradient and holographic colors need Discord's Enhanced Role Styles perk. The Server check card says which the server has. If the server loses the perk, Discord shows gradient roles in their first color.
Can a member keep their role after they stop boosting?
Give them one of the Also allowed to claim one roles. Otherwise the role goes when the grace period ends.
Still stuck? Ask in the support server: somebody there has almost certainly configured this before.
